Course Objectives: To enable team members to see the wider aspects of projects and the part they play in successful delivery.
Use: Suitable for any IT project environment. Particularly appropriate for use where the Project Managers have already attended the Practical Project Management course.
Training approach: Highly interactive, with practical exercises based on actual IT project situations. Handouts provided for each session for future reference.
Delegates: Members of the project team.

Module Content
Introduction & Overview: A high level view of projects. A discussion on why so many projects fail.
Project life cycle: An overview of typical IT project life-cycles, and the major tasks and roles. A look at the key players, internal and external.
What does the Project Manager do all day? A high level view of the PM's roles and responsibilities, and how the team can support these. An approach to personal time management
Understanding project plans: An examination of a typical project plan, to understand roles and dependencies between tasks and team, and the importance of working to a plan.
Tracking progress: Using the project plan examines ways of tracking progress and how the team provide the means to enable the PM to monitor the project.
Requirements and change control: An appreciation of the importance of having a clear set of requirements and of sticking to these. An understanding of change control, and what goes wrong when it is not used.
Importance of quality: What happens when quality controls are not in place. A review of the ideal quality plan and why it is relevant to the team.
Communication skills: Looks at improving communication skills (written, verbal and body language) and specifically how to improve communication with clients and senior management.
Commercial Awareness: Understanding of the importance of the client relationship, how to answer phones and behave professionally.
